Take Back the 2nd!

Because it doesn't say, "Unless the government decides that you don't need it!"

Welcome to the Take back the 2nd’s new forums!

Things are really happening around here! The only thing missing is your interaction. So our Webmaster put in a speed-bump in the form of the Take Back the 2nd’s community forums. This is your chance to ask questions, share your knowledge maybe even brag about a recent purchase or hunt. It can be whatever you make it to be.

The basic forum rules apply, and for the record you should read them. Basically it boils down to if you’re looking to flame someone or belittle someone’s lack of knowledge, well that’s what Facebook is for. This is meant to be a place to talk about guns and gun accessories. Don’t be afraid to be the first to post. If you post it, they will come.

Let us know what you think, let us know how we’re doing, Hell let us know you’re out there!

A bonding moment

My father called me tonight just to check in and see how my family was doing. I hadn’t talked to him since we’d taken up the cause of the Second Amendment, so I told him what we were doing. A little background on my father: He served stateside in the Air Force during the 50s & 60s. After leaving the service he became a Deputy Sherriff in Orange County where he served for over 25 years until a medical retirement. Basically he is a by the books, no BS man. He is also what I call an “old school father”, never quite comfortable around young kids or expressing too much emotion. At least when I was growing up.

As I explained to him about the restrictions on ammo that Gavin Newsom was trying to push through he stopped me dead in my tracks, “Wait a minute son! Are you supporting that?!” I assured him that we would fight any attempt to derail our Second Amendment rights. (That was close!)

We spent the next 45 minutes talking about CCWs, traffic stops, and hand gun selection. It was the longest phone conversation that we’d had for a very many years. I could tell in his voice that he was proud of the work that I am doing. Not that I have issues, but it felt good to receive the praise.

He also told me about an old friend of his from the department, Wiley Clapp. I searched his name while my father told me about some of the adventures that they had. I was surprised to read that he was THE Wiley Clapp of The Wiley Clapp Colt fame! He even gave me a key question to ask Wiley, if I can get a hold of him that will, as dad put it “Cut through 95% of his bullshit walls.” Almost like a secret handshake, it will let him know that I’m not some American Rifleman groupie. I’ll let y’all know if it works in an upcoming blog.

You just never know who your parents know unless you talk to them. Ask them about their past and then shut up and listen! Learn from them and find a common interest. Probably even more important, share your experiences with your kids. Give them a reason to look up to you.

Remember what we’re fighting for & God bless America

Just A Quick Hello

image

Born and raised outside of Bakersfield, California and currently residing in Southern California I am a proud husband, father of three, and American. These four people mean the world to me and I will stop at nothing to protect them. I am a blue collar, work for everything I have kind of guy, with the love of my family and the grace from God I could not ask for more.

As a gun owner I believe in individual rights that were bestowed upon us as outlined in our bill of rights. I see these rights under threat by liberal democrats and in the same way they need protection. Starting from nothing more than a comment session on social media, Michael, Scott, and I got tired of hearing that “something needs to be done”. So we, in a few different forms, have begun this grass roots movement to protect our second amendment from any and all threats. So join us in this fight, it will be a good one.
Until next time take care #takebackthe2nd and God Bless America.

Whatever it Takes.

I’ll tell you right now, you’ll either love this post, or you’ll hate it.  It’s been on my mind a lot lately, so I felt I should put something down.  As with most red-blooded males in this country, my family is my life.  I cherish every moment I get to be with them, and in my case, I will do whatever it takes to protect them as well as my property, should it be in jeopardy at any point.  I guess it should also be known that I am a conservative white male, who believes it is an American RIGHT to keep and bear arms.  Now, that being said, I do believe that keeping guns out of the hands of convicted felons is necessary for a variety of reasons.  I DO NOT believe, however, that banning “Assault Rifles” is necessary, nor is creating a “Gun Free Zone” around schools/parks/government buildings.  My view is this, if you are proven to be a responsible American citizen who just so happens to enjoy heading out to the local gun range, or somewhere on your private property to shoot things, and you like to do it quickly, I don’t see why you should be banned from owning whatever firearm you choose.

The latest trend I’m seeing on the news is the creation of “Gun Free Zones”.  These zones are put in place at schools and parks, and I’m sure if it’s not done already, soon it will be government buildings.  This seems utterly pointless to me.  Do you really think a criminal with the intent of walking into a school to harm some people is going to see this sign that says “Gun Free Zone”, and think to himself “Gee, it’s a gun free zone here, I better just turn around and go home.”?  If you believe that’s how it will play out, I also have some ocean front property in Arizona I’d like to sell you.  In my opinion, all a “Gun Free Zone” is going to do, is make it impossible for a school guard, or teacher or principle to defend themselves and their students, all the while, the criminal or shooter will just walk in and start shooting, with no fear of repercussion.
I strongly believe in the 2nd Amendment, and I will defend our right’s as citizens to keep it.  I own a quite a few firearms.  I keep them locked up, and I practice safety first.  As a big supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I am constantly reading up on news surrounding guns.  With the terrorist attack in France, I can tell you, it’s only a matter of time before the government tries more gun grabbing techniques.  Here is the part of this that makes no sense to me.  If someone gets killed by a drunk driver, the driver is the one that gets blamed, not the car.  If someone is obese, it’s usually their eating habits to blame, not the utensils that they used to eat with.  So, given that logic, when a shooting happens, why do we so quickly place the blame on guns, and try to take those away from the people that use them sensibly, when it’s the SHOOTER that caused the problem, and IS the problem?  Making it increasingly more difficult to legally purchase a gun, is NOT going to stop these shootings.  Do you think the shooters that committed these heinous crimes legally owned the guns that they used to carry out these shootings?  Do a little research, and you’ll see that in most, if not all, cases, the guns were not legally owned by the shooters carrying out the acts of violence.

Part of being a legal gun owner, and in my opinion, a 2nd Amendment supporter, is to be a responsible gun owner, with safety at the forefront of gun ownership.  Like I mentioned, there are multiple guns in my household, but each one is locked up, and out of reach of my child, and the ammunition is kept separate from the guns, with the guns unloaded.  Guns are a huge responsibility, but I will continually defend our right to have them.

If you get nothing out of this blog post, walk away with this.  Guns are a great tool for protecting your family, as well as lots of fun at the local range, and when used properly, are incredibly valuable to have at your side.  This next statement may cause me to lose some followers (not that I have many to begin with).  I am such a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and the right to defend, if you come onto my property, and try to disarm me, you’ll be taking my guns out of my cold dead hands.

A rambling introduction

ry=400Hello everyone,

My name is Michael and I am one of the founders of takebackthe2nd.org. I am a proud supporter of our nation, even in it’s current state it is the best nation in the world. I believe that all of our rights are worth fighting for but especially our Second Amendment rights! Without them it would be so easy to strip the rest away. Even if you choose not to own a firearm, it should be your choice, not the governments.

I am married to a beautiful, supportive, gun loving woman! In fact as I write this I am reminded that it is our fourth anniversary today! The long story is that we dated as teens and found each other some 30 odd years later to finish what we were too young to start back then. We have a blended family of 2 daughters and 1 son. Both daughters are grown and out on their own and my son divides his time between his mother’s house and ours. I am the Cubmaster and Karla is the Committee Chair in our son’s Cub Scout Pack and we encourage him to learn all that he can from Scouting. As a father it is my honor and duty to teach him how to properly handle and shoot firearms.

I am by no means a professional blogger as you’ll find out for yourself soon enough, but I feel compelled to do what I can to further the cause. I  have owned guns even before I was legally able to, thanks to my eldest brother’s Christmas present of his old 410 shotgun when I was about 12. I have compiled a very modest collection over the years, never really going gun crazy until recently.

If you have any questions or suggestions please let me know by commenting below or send me an email at michael@takebackthe2nd.org

A little about me.

As a reader of blogs myself, I find it fascinating to learn a little bit about the person behind the keyboard for the blogs that I read.  I’ll be using my first post on my blog to tell you a little bit about myself.

If you couldn’t guess, I am a pro 2nd Amendment supporter, and I believe that as Americans, we have the right to keep and bear arms, and the massive amount of restrictions being put on that right is a violation of our Constitutional rights.  This is the main reason I’ve joined the cause at takebackthe2nd.org.  I am a 35 year old guy, living in the mountains of Southern California, who’s been married for just over 10 years.  I have a 3 year old daughter, and another daughter due to enter this world on December 28th, 2015.  I look forward to being able to contribute to this blog regularly, and look forward to bringing you great 2nd Amendment news and articles.  Please join me in the fight to take back our rights!  If you have any questions for me, comments, or concerns, shoot me an email to scott@takebackthe2nd.org

Thanks!

Take Back the 2nd’s Goals

Our initial goal is to stop Gavin Newsom’s anti Second Amendment bill, cleverly named  “The Safety for All Act of 2016″*. The act attempts to further erode our Second Amendment rights by putting unnecessary restrictions on the legal gun owners of this state. The purchasing of ammunition will cause the buyer to be subjected to the additional cost and scrutiny of a background check, much like someone buying a gun.

The three main reasons that the Founding Fathers wisely added the Second Amendment were:

  • To keep the Government from overstepping it’s purposefully limited powers. A recent poll shows that 70% of Americans do not trust the Federal Government.
  • For personal safety. With the passage of AB 109, otherwise known as “Public Safety Realignment” sixty four thousand criminals have been released back into our neighborhoods. Many of them with violent criminal records. As law abiding citizens, we have the right to protect our lives and property.
  • To protect our fundamental rights. If the government can take away one right they can take them all away.

Have you noticed that when the liberals want to diminish our rights it’s often done under the guise of Safety? Disarming citizens does not equate to safety. We cannot afford to be the silent majority any longer. We need to rise up and make our collective voices heard! If we neglect to take action now we will continue to lose our rights. We believe that Mr. Newsom is simply pandering for votes for his upcoming gubernatorial run in 2018. Not only is his initiative misleading but it is largely unenforceable and over reaching.

It will cause currently legal ammunition magazines to suddenly and overnight become illegal. Criminalizing otherwise law abiding gun owners. It will likely cause all but the largest current ammunition sellers to abandon the product due to costly overhead and surely drive small business owners out of business or at least out of state. It will cause the price of guns AND ammunition to grow beyond the ability of many Californians to afford. It can strip us of our fundamental right of self-defense, leaving us vulnerable and reliant on an already over worked police force.

It will add millions of dollars to an already bloated California deficit AND create yet another liberal bureaucracy with little power to enforce the new law. The state will be able to collect and share personal data of every gun owner with impunity.

We hope to educate California voters to the true cost of Mr. Newsom’s bill. We believe that the tax money and effort that would be wasted by the additional gun restrictions would be better spent on gun safety education and training. Our goal will be to not only provide information needed to make a logical decision to defend your 2nd. Amendment rights, but also the ability to register to vote.

In addition, we’ll strive to make a Carrying a Concealed Weapon permit in California more obtainable for every law abiding citizen. We believe that a CCW should be nationally recognized the same way a Driver License and a Marriage License is. We will also work to repeal California’s restrictive open carry laws. We believe that it is our right to self-preservation that is being hindered by these oppressive laws.

All anyone with common sense has to do is look to places like Chicago, with some of the most stringent gun laws in the nation to prove that restrictive gun laws by themselves do not work. Criminals will ALWAYS find a way to obtain weapons, including creating them. All that these laws create are defenseless citizens.

If after educating yourself you choose not to own a gun, that is your decision, your right. We are fighting to keep that right, to choose for yourself and not let the government choose for you.

Every time one of our rights is taken away by liberal politicians, we become less like citizens and more like subjects. It is our duty and responsibility to defend these rights no matter what the cost. The time is now to stand up and say “no more” and take back the 2nd! Because it doesn’t say, “Unless the government decides that you don’t need it!”

Thank you and God Bless America!

*The Safety for All Act of 2016

The initiative will appear on the 2016 California ballot with the following provisions:

  • Prohibits Possession of Large-Capacity Military-Style Magazines: The Safety for All initiative outlaws possession of large-capacity magazines of 11 rounds or more and provides for their legal disposal. If passed, California would join New York, New Jersey, Hawaii and The District of Columbia in banning possession of these military-style clips.
  • Treats Ammunition Sales Like Gun Sales: The initiative requires licensing of ammunition vendors and point-of-sale background checks for ammunition purchases. Under the initiative, if a person is convicted of a felony, a violent misdemeanor, has a restraining order or has been declared dangerously mentally ill, they will no longer be able to buy ammunition in California. California would be the first state to require background checks at point of sale.
  • Ensures People Prohibited from Owning Guns Do Not Possess Them: The initiative defines a clear firearms relinquishment process for those convicted of a felony or a violent misdemeanor.
  • Requires Reporting Lost or Stolen Guns: The initiative requires firearm owners to notify law enforcement if their firearm has been lost or stolen. With the Safety for All initiative, California would join 11 other states and the City of Sacramento requiring lost and/or stolen firearm reporting.
  • Shares Data with Federal System on Prohibited People: The initiative mandates that California share data with the FBI/NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System).Copied directly from http://www.safetyforall.com/ on 11/2/2015
